Local Golf Courses

Locally there is the golf course at Muir of Ord, which is just a 5 minute drive, a great James Braid designed 18 hole course. The wonderfully scenic Aigas Golf Course is a beautiful 10 minute drive and has an interesting and challenging 9 holes.

Within a 15 minute drive is Strathpeffer Golf Club another wonderfully scenic 18 hole course in the historic spa village of Strathpeffer. Inverness has three golf clubs, Loch Ness Golf Club at Fairways, Inverness Golf Club and Kings Golf Club all 18 hole courses.

Finally we cannot forget to mention the James Braid designed course at Fortrose and Rosemarkie. You can enjoy a round of golf on the Moray Firth coast and perhaps spot some dolphins.

Golf Courses further afield

Being the home of golf, Scotland has a large and varied range of courses. Here are just a few that can easily be visited within an hour or so drive from your holiday accommodation at Chrialdon House Bed and Breakfast in Beauly.

Castle Stewart Golf links which famously hosted the Scottish Open in 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2016 is about a 30 minute drive away and offers a challenge for all golfers.

Royal Dornoch, although an hours trip is well worth it, a stunning coastal golf course with 36 holes.

Nairn Golf Course and Nairn Dunbar Golf Course are both in the seaside town of Nairn, perhaps the more adventurous players can try both on the same day.

What to see on the Black Isle

On the Black Isle (an t-Eilean Dubh in Gaelic) there are many wonderfully quaint villages.

Avoch (pronounced like loch without the L) is a costal former fishing village. There are some relaxing walks to be had around Avoch so park your car and enjoy the area.

Fortrose and Rosemarkie are two villages next to each other. Both share the coastline with a beautiful sandy beach and opportunities to see dolphins. There is a scenic golf course to play or just walk around.

Cromarty at the northern tip of the Black Isle is another former fishing village with beautiful walks and history around every corner.

What to do on the Black Isle

As well as the many wonderful villages to visit and tour there are shops and other attractions on the Black Isle.

The waterfall at the Fairy Glen near Rosemarkie, is a great walk though the woods to this hidden gem which is an RSPB nature reserve.

While visiting Rosemarkie, you can visit the beautiful sandy beach. If you would prefer to learn more about the history of the area, visit Groam House Museum.

Black Isle Berries fruit farm, where you can pick your own strawberries and raspberries, remember to get some cream on the way there.

Visit Chanonry point at Fortrose and be treated to the daily dolphins visit, Take your camera.

Mountain bikers can enjoy the challenging Learnie Red Rocks near Cromarty. Remember we have dry storage facilities at Chrialdon Bed and Breakfast for your biking equipment. Then visit the village of Cromarty for afternoon tea or lunch. Ecoventures also offer dolphin boat trips so check them out too.

Black Isle Brewery offer daily tours around their brewery and naturally offer a great selection of beers to buy. Or perhaps you are a whisly lover. Just 5 minutes from Chrialdon Bed and Breakfast is Glen Ord Distillery. You can enjoy a tour of the distillery and a wee tasting session.
